FAITH MILESTONES

Faith is an adventure! 

Every child has a unique faith journey and relationship with Jesus Christ formed one step at a time. At NewLife, one way we experience this journey is through Faith Milestones. 

Each milestone allows children, their families, and this community to pause and celebrate where they are, reflect on where they’ve been, and look ahead to where Jesus is leading them. We pray these milestones are a blessing to our children, students, and families now and in the future!

Baptism (Infant, or any age):

At the waters of baptism, a child is marked as a son or daughter of God. And so, the journey begins! Faith is a gift from God and in baptism, a child is sealed with the promises of the Holy Spirit to strengthen, grow, protect, and understand this faith as one grows and matures.

Storybook Bible (Pre-K/Kindergarten):

As a child grows, the natural next step is entering into a world of education. As a child enters Kids Church, we want to give them God’s Word. The Jesus Storybook Bible is designed for parents to read to their child and hear the Gospel message in a way they can understand.

Child Receives: The Jesus Storybook Bible

First Bible (2nd Grade):

A major milestone in any child’s life is learning to read. When a child enters 2nd grade, they’ll receive the Growing in Faith Bible Storybook. Designed for their reading level, this Bible will allow a child to read the words of Scripture for themselves.

Student Bible (End of 5th Grade):

By the end of 5th grade, a child is leaving Kids Church and moving onto Foundations. We want to equip these students with the Faith Alive Student Bible as they enter into a deeper understanding of God’s Word and lean into their personal relationship with Jesus.

First Communion (5th/6th Grade):

Jesus invites his followers to the table of Holy Communion. By this age and stage of development, a child is ready for further education and a deeper connection with Jesus through this Sacrament. A child, along with support from their parents, will receive instruction from Pastor Matt and celebrate this milestone during a special worship service. 

Student Receives: Study of the Sacraments, Holy Communion

Confirmation (7th/8th Grade):

This Faith Milestone is marked by a student ready to affirm and confess their faith publicly. Each student will receive education from Pastor Matt along with the workbook, Guided by Truth: Enduring Faith Confirmation Journal. Culminating in their personal faith paper, students will be celebrated during a special worship service.

Graduation (12th Grade):

As a student matures into young adulthood, their faith has also matured. These late adolescent years bring about increased independence and a personal faith built on a variety of life experiences. 

As a student enters into decisions following high school graduation, we want to equip them with The Lutheran Study Bible so God’s Word can continue to guide each next step. As so, the journey continues!
